**Confusing words
1. reunion vs meeting** Meeting — это просто встреча, особенно деловая: We had a meeting with the manager yesterday.
Reunion — встреча людей, которые давно не виделись (семья, одноклассники): Our school reunion was so emotional!
👉 "Meeting" — по делу, "reunion" — по душам (и после долгой разлуки).
2. sympathetic vs friendly Sympathetic — сочувствующий, понимающий: She was very sympathetic when I told her about the accident.
Friendly — дружелюбный: Our neighbors are so friendly!
👉 "Sympathetic" — сочувствие, "friendly" — хорошее отношение в целом.
3. sensible vs sensitive Sensible — разумный, практичный: It’s sensible to save money for emergencies.
Sensitive — чувствительный (эмоционально или физически): She’s very sensitive — she cries easily.
👉 "Sensible" — разумом, "sensitive" — чувствами.
4. fit into vs suit Fit into — физически влезать, подходить по размеру/форме: These shoes don’t fit into the box.
Suit — подходить кому-то по стилю, быть к лицу, устраивать: That dress really suits you.
👉 "Fit into" — про размер, "suit" — про стиль и удобство.
5. vacancy vs vacation Vacancy — вакансия (на работе), или свободный номер в отеле: We have a job vacancy for a teacher.
Vacation — отпуск, каникулы (американский вариант): We’re going to Italy for our summer vacation.
👉 "Vacancy" — что-то свободное, "vacation" — отдых.
6. classic vs classical Classic — культовый, образцовый: That’s a classic movie!
Classical — классический в смысле искусства: She plays classical music on the piano.
👉 "Classic" — культовая штука, "classical" — стиль (музыка, архитектура и т.д.)
7. assist vs attend Assist — помогать: The nurse assisted the doctor during surgery.
Attend — присутствовать, посещать: He attended the lecture yesterday.
👉 "Assist" — помогать, "attend" — быть где-то (в школе, на мероприятии).
8. possibility vs opportunity Possibility — вероятность, шанс, что что-то может произойти: There’s a possibility of rain tomorrow.
Opportunity — возможность (шанс сделать что-то хорошее): That internship is a great opportunity!
👉 "Possibility" — может случиться, "opportunity" — шанс сделать что-то полезное.
9. prove vs test Prove — доказать: He proved he was innocent.
Test — проверить: Let’s test the software before using it.
👉 "Prove" — показать, что что-то истинно, "test" — проверить, работает ли.
10. at the moment vs actually At the moment — сейчас: I’m busy at the moment.
Actually — вообще-то, на самом деле: Actually, I don’t like coffee.
👉 "At the moment" — прямо сейчас, "actually" — вводим уточнение или противопоставление.
11. in the end vs at the end In the end — в итоге (результат истории): In the end, we decided not to go.
At the end — в конце чего-то конкретного: At the end of the movie, everyone cried.
👉 "In the end" — результат, "at the end" — момент во времени.
