As a linguistics student I am often met with a notion, the notion, that my future career is as good as a sinking ship.

I am at that point of my studies where I have the chance to choose the path of my future career. And that's why I often notice myself thinking... Is it worth it?

AI is everywhere and, for better or worse, it's not going to relent. The simple fact is that some professions are not going to be the same forever, they grow and evolve with the society. Does that however mean that is it for me and my fellow language enthusiasts?

In my (perhaps biased) opinion... We shall see. There are aspects of translation that no AI is able to surpass now (context is something that it seems to not be able to grasp fully yet). That doesn't mean it's not going to be able to do so in the future.

Upsetting as this thought is, I am of strong opinion that lingthusiasts are and will continue to be in high demand. Cross-cultural communication, for example, is something that is in a need of the human touch.

But that's just a theory... What are your thoughts on this?
